Our History

Overlooking the Gironde estuary, this imposing Renaissance-style residence located in a superb secular park bordered by vines, commands a 10-hectare vineyard planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes…

At the end of the 1980s, a couple acquired the château and decided to reconnect with the vine and wine. With the purchase of a few plots of old vines and the planting of new plots within the Château, production resumed. This renewal of the activity requires the adoption of a new name, the original name having been lost due to the interruption of production.

This is how the name Château Rousseau de Sipian was born, in reference to the Rousseau family who had the building built and to the old name of the Sipian estate.

The wine-growing activity continued and in October 2000, Christopher Racey and his father Roy, passionate and great wine lovers, acquired the property and began major modernization work on the cellars and the vineyard… efforts regularly rewarded by the attribution of Medals during the Paris and Bordeaux competitions, without forgetting the “Reconnaissance Cru Bourgeois” from the 2008 vintage onwards.

Today the Château offers hospitality to wine lovers from all over the world who travel through our region while enjoying their stay in a haven of peace.

Our VINEYARD

The care given to the vines has only one goal: the expression of the Médoc terroir in the grapes that will be used to make the wine of Château Rousseau de Sipian.

Limited yields, the return to plowing the vines and the grapes harvested at optimum maturity are all assets for making a great Médoc wine..

The farm covers an area of 10 ha, spread over the municipalities of Valeyrac, Jau, and Bégadan.

We find the traditional Médoc grape varieties, mainly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Petit Verdot in small proportions. The vineyard is entrusted to the cellar master (30 years of experience) who provides the necessary care for the production of excellent quality grapes.
